After a long hiatus, here at last is the long awaited new release from Junkyard Asylum. Currently Mick Emerson on guitars, bass and vocals and Justin Radford on piano. Recorded March 2018 at The Junkyard. Drum track and mixed by Les Surtees.
PUNKS WITH CANCER celebrates the sheer grottiness of some of the clubs we've played, with a reminder of our own mortality and to live each day as though it's your last....as one day it will be.
With punk rock now in its fortieth year, the first wave are fast approaching pensionable age and may be feeling the effects of a life lived to the full....too full?
Some perhaps, just used up all the life they had in them, on too much fun and too many good times. Others perhaps have had to come to terms with the real shit that life can drop on you. Real scary stuff like cancer, which, in many cases, can be treated if detected early, if only we'd take the trouble to get checked out from time to time.
It's easy, find out about it and do it.
All artist profits from the sale of this track goes to Cancer Research UK.
lyrics
PUNKS WITH CANCER
Went to a party on the other side of life,
A junkies funeral.
That's five this year, All from our year at school,
Tryin' to survive their fifties.
All the faces from the places of a miss-spent youth,
Gray and ageing, sick and desperate,
Vaping like their lives depended on it
While slowly Drowning in their own fluids.
Stubble ringed skinhead crowns,
Gray as washed out jeans and ramones Tee shirts.
Faded, shapeless tattoos on withered arms.
Suckin' on a morphine stick.
There's nothin' sadder than punks with cancer.
Landlord pisses in the fire bucket,
Stops his customers smokin' the butts.
Risin' like a yeast in a filthy basement,
The Pigeons eat puke off the curchyard steps.
Too much fun, too many good times.
You can't fuckin' pogo when you need a crutch.
His hip was playing up so they had to blow the gig.
This is when you realise what you have become.
